My big cat20 lbs
« on: July 18, 2008, 11:08:25 AM »

Has anyone ever been their before?  Its in Inwood, WV like not to far from Martinsburg, WV...It was the 1st pay lake that i've ever been too.  Was not very impressed 1st of all $10 for the day thats 7am to 6pm... Fished for about 6hrs caught a few but what really got my attention was after a down poring rain saw a few Blue Cats float to the top D.E.A.D one looked like it would a weighed in the 20#...So what im wondering is how clean are these Fish Ponds / Lakes?  It says their a Hatchery, but I know they don't raise fish like that their?  Do they pay commerical fisherman soo much money an inch?

Yep I fished it once 30 years ago,,,not very impressed, the cats rolled up because of an oxygen problem that happens some times during hard rain.

Interesting Jim. I figured the rain would put more oxygen in the water.

Yep,,I just read about it recently,,,something to do with the low pressure system allows the oxygen to bubble up and dissapate quickly and with the hard rain all the oxygen is right on the surface while the deeper waters get depleted,,interesting huh

Sure is.....thanks for that information. Kind of makes sense though because I have seen fish running around on top even in the lakes after it rains.

Let me say first off I have known the people who own this place and fished there many years. It is a paylake but mostly for eating size fish. Its not a trophy impoundment and they dont buy fish. As stated they are a hatchery and if you check out a photo of the place they have about a fifty or so small ponds and lakes where their fish are raised. I have never seen a bluecat in any of their lakes. They used to sell them but did not stock them in the fishing lakes there. I have seen 10lb give or take a few lb channels come out of their lakes. Most are 2 to 5 lb cats taken out of there. They are very clean lakes and ponds. I go there to get channels for the dinner table. The fish are clean and have a good flavor.
